"I was given permission by the venue to do this poster, but was not paid. I did this one on my own, fully expecting to reimburse myself with print sales, and for the following reasons:
-This design was originally going to be used for a poster I was going to do directly for The Strokes. After talks with the band, they decided to go with the posters that RCA made for them to start off, and that we might do something later.
THEN, Jeff Wood and I were going to use this art on a collaboration for a STROKES poster, but our schedueles just didnt mesh.
So, theres this piece of artwork just sitting around, and I wanted to use it on a STROKES show, and BAM, Im talking with a contact of mine at AERIAL THEATER in Houston, and she's asking me my opnion of whether I think the Strokes could sell out the place. I asked if I could do a poster for the show, cause I had a design all ready, (plus, I wanna pad my STROKES 'folio' so that the next time I talk with the band's management there are a couple physical pieces I've done for them) and she said fine. So, I did it, gave the venue a small stack of 'em (yes, they are hanging up in certain stores around town to promote the show: so, um, it IS a promo poster), and have a stack for The Strokes, too..."
