This second commercialized genetically modified tomato (after the Flavr Savr tomato, pronounced "flavor saver" and known as CGN-89564-2) was created by insertion of the tooth gene enamelysin (MMP20) into a Baby Cakes tomato. This tomato, known as RRT-89431-3 and colloquially called "Raccoon Tom," was marketed as being resistant to raccoons but has been commercially unsuccessful due to safety issues and ethical criticisms from various fringe environmental groups.
