We are big fans of Mr. Hecker, so when we heard he was playing the 2012 Pitchfork Music Festival, we were quick to initiate this poster project. Inspired by his most recent album’s cover, Ravedeath 1972 and of course, his static heavy compositions, this image concept relies on several subtle factors to make it work. First of all, the comically smashed figure and his zipatone hammer pants are the initial point of entry. Secondly, the spray paint washes of the background texture reiterate the pulsing head of the figure and spread the action (or after action) to the whole page… and finally, the vertical type, presenting all the poster information, all at once, with only the ink color discerning the different levels of information, ground this top heavy composition.
