Three color screen print on Arches 88.The image is 20 x 16 inches and the paper is 30 x 22 inches with deckled edges.
The inspiration for this print came during all of the hoopla of the recent royal wedding between Kate and William. I felt that with all of the attention being paid to the royal family somehow Diana’s legacy was being lost in all of the hype. I began to research images of Diana and ran across a letter that she wrote to her butler Paul Burrell in which she predicted that Prince Charles was planning to kill her. The letter reads: ”I am sitting here at my desk today in October, longing for someone to hug me and encourage me to keep strong and hold my head high. This particular phase in my life is the most dangerous – my husband is planning ‘an accident’ in my car, brake failure and serious head injury in order to make the path clear for him to marry Tiggy. Camilla is nothing but a decoy, so we are all being used by the man in every sense of the word.”
I was stunned by how accurate her prediction was related to how she would be killed, and began to wonder if the royal family indeed did have a hand in her death. I decided I would use the letter in the print along with images of the crash to offer one explanation of her tragic death.
