"Papio was an image that I had stuck in my mind at the beginning of 2010 when I was traveling through SE Asia. I was traveling for three months and this painting constantly grew in my mind and evolving. I got very excited about it as sometimes you get a feeling about paintings and know if they are going to be a '10' or not. So, throughout my travels I was forever around monkeys and had encountered a lot during my life. You can see how aggressive they can become and the raw emotion that they can let loose.
When I got home the first thing I did was go straight to my studio and start on the painting. I feel that the 3 months the image had been in my head came out in one very fluid idea of what was portrayed inside my mind. The colours and the strokes that I used in it were to get across a very direct emotional angst and anger. I scratched and ripped into the painting to make the viewer feel uncomfortable." - George Morton-Clark
