Here is an extremely rare Shepard Fairey POW-USA poster. As you may know, Shepard originally designed the POW-USA posters on behalf of Witness Against Torture, a grassroots organization dedicated to shutting down Guantanamo and ending torture. In 2007, Shepard donated a set of POW-USA prints to WAT as we prepared to mark the 6th anniversary of the US opening Guantanamo for indefinite detention and torture.
Now, as Witness Against Torture prepares to mark the 10th anniversary - the prison is still open despite President Obama’s pledge to close it - Shepard has agreed to let WAT sell some t-shirts with his POW-USA image (shirts printed and donated by Shepard's friend Vivek Correia at Jiminy Stitch-It in San Jose) as a way to fund the campaign (please see our other auctions to see the t-shirts).
After the t-shirts were made, the Jiminy Stitch-It folks also printed a separate run of four posters on sheets of actual uncut United States currency (these are one dollar bills, each with its unique serial numbers), and Shepard then signed them. They have now donated this one poster ( Number 1 of 4) for us to auction on ebay as an additional way to raise money for our campaign to shut down Guantanamo.
Unless the winner of this auction later re-sells this poster, you will never see another one of these posters for auction again (the other three are held privately). Therefore, you have a chance to buy one of the rarest Shepard Fairey posters ever printed while also supporting Witness Against Torture’s important work. Did we mention that the poster is signed and numbered by Shepard and printed on actual US currency?
And if you're wondering about the meaning of the currency, think about this: it cost the US government more than $50 million to build the high-security prison there and costs about $100 million a year to run it...
The poster, as you can see in the second photo, is approximately 16" x 12.5" The poster will be shipped insured directly from San Jose in heavy-weight ( Double Tube ) packaging.
For more information on Witness Against Torture please see our web site witnesstorture DOT org and please tell your friends about the poster, t-shirts and our campaign.
