R-81 in the lower left cornerRedding was 26 at the time and had just recorded but not released "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay." Seven people, including Redding, died in the flight from Cleveland that crashed into Lake Monona. Ben Cauley, a member of Redding's band, the Bar-Kays, was the only survivor.
Some time after the crash, Rick Nielsen of Cheap Trick recalled the poster in an interview, saying, "The poster for the show was creepy, too. It had all these plants growing out from what looked like a coffin." ...
Ken Adamany, who promoted the 1967 Redding show and is still active as a promoter here, said that "around 100" of the posters were printed.
A recent article on Otis (posted here:

suggests that the artist was a then college student named Michael Barr.
