response to the concept of the poster itself and centered on the bottom is
"Apoly-logies to Frank Kozik".
"The photo used was contrasted darker than what Sharon appears in the (Kozik)
NIN because I wanted to suggest something a little sinister with Andy
especially with the party's title "You can be a Superstar." I wanted it almost to be
like a demonic recruitment poster. Andy, I feel, really sucked these poor
fools dry by building them up and discarding them when their usefulness ran out
(or in Edie's case from a perceived betrayal). I don't feel that sorry for
them, though, as they were using Andy in the same manner if not more so. Edie,
I think, was a special case and she luckily had the most recognizable eyes of
any of the superstars. Had I gotten a pic of Solanis that I could use, it
would have been a much different poster. By using Edie, however, I wanted Andy
to be much darker and thus create a role reversal when compared to the NIN
poster (thus the eyes in the background become the forlorn stare of the victim
rather than the predator as in NIN).
Apoly-logies comes from a few of Frank's posters where he makes an obvious
swipe and adds at the bottom "Apologies to {whoever}". I made it apoly-logies
in reference to A Clockwork Orange which both Frank & I are huge fans of and to
show, in case people thought I was trying to get away with something,
acknowledgment of the original source."
