Patrice Poch was born in 1972 – Lives and works in Rennes From the age of 14, Patrice Poch is in the punk rock scene : Harrington and doc martens, distorted guitars and high energy gigs. D.I.Y. culture and street credibility, he quickly takes an interest in stencils and make his first stencil in 1988. In the late eighties he discovers the hip hop movement and graffiti. Self-taught, he gets into this new medium and at an industrial rate he multiplies paintings on walls and on trains of the parisian suburbs. Around this time, Europe is an international graffiti playground. He travels, facing different cultures and other artists. In the late nineties, he chooses a more minimalist direction. Favouring other mediums, he multiplies acrylic paint logos, collage in situ, stencils and posters. The references and quotes of his interventions found on the street are influenced by the punk-rock scene and mods culture from the sixties . Limited by the format of posters, he decides to represent characters in full scale, opening a different dialog and interaction with the audience. Anachronistic faces he shows are the actors of the eighties punk scene to wich the street is the decor conductive to wandering. True to the iconographic codes dear to his youth, he glorifies snapshots from a distant past where «forum des Halles» was associated with base ball bats, perfecto jackets with bicycle chains, subbies with triplex belts. |
