As the sister event of Switzerland’s Art Basel, the most prestigious art show worldwide for the past 41 years, Art Basel Miami Beach combines an international selection of top galleries with an exciting program of special exhibitions, parties and crossover events featuring music, film, architecture and design. 2011 marked the 10th Anniversary exhibition which attracted more than 50,000 people from around the world. The main sector of exhibitions include more than 250 galleries alone showcasing over 2,000 artists and 10,000 works of art. Along with adjoining satellite fairs and associated events, Art Basel Miami Beach has eclipsed the original Art Basel in size and popularity, if not importance. Art Basel’s Main Exhibition sites are located in the city’s famous Art Deco District, within walking distance of the beautiful beach and luxury hotels. Satellite fairs and associated special events for Art Basel Miami Beach are held in the streets, galleries and pop-up venues in the neighborhoods of Wynwood, Midtown and Miami's Design District. Events in Downtown Miami are held in coordination with the Miami Art Museum and Downtown area associations at Bicentennial Park and Bayfront Park, as well as Downtown theatres such as the Gusman Theater. Exhibiting galleries are among the world’s most respected art dealers. Special exhibition sections feature young galleries, performance art, public art projects and video art. The show is a vital source for art lovers, allowing them to both discover new developments in contemporary art and experience rare museum-caliber artworks. In addition to the main fair, Art Basel, there are more than a dozen other popular satellite fairs featuring thousands and thousands of works of amazing cutting edge art.
