Jacub Gagnon, artist, (06/02/87) Gagnon is one of Toronto’s great emerging artists in the new contemporary movement. He graduated in 2009 and holds a BFA specialized in Drawing & Painting from the Ontario College of Art and Design (OCAD) in Toronto, Canada. Gagnon’s greatest strength derives from his ability to transfer the fine qualities from his drawings to canvas. Gagnon renders miniscule forms with great accuracy. His work is heightened from his aptitude for color and applying layers. Using small brushes and handling them as he would a pencil, Gagnon is able to achieve forms of illustrative qualities that edge into the peculiar world of Pop Surrealism. His most recent body of work titled ‘String Theory’ is one that brings viewers into a whimsical, bizarre, and curious world that is loosely based on the leading scientific theory that everything is connected. Gagnon creates his first series beyond the educational sphere cleverly connecting animals with random objects.
Currently practicing as an artist in Toronto, I create images that question and entertain the discussion of connectivity. Within the stage that is my canvas, I present animals and objects in bizarre manners, placing them in scenes that oppose practicality. My paintings become a space in which nature becomes unnatural, bordering surreal. Contact
