Meyers was an early to mid 19th Century magazine illustrator born in New Orleans, Louisiana.
Meyers worked for Crowell-Collier publications in New York City. He studied at Tulane University and the Art Students League with Harvey Dunn.
Spending most of his life in New York, Meyers became a collector of antiques; in particular armor, which he frequently used in his illustrations.
His work producing propaganda posters for the US Government during WWII are some of his most famous and prolific works, although his early works are heavily influenced by the Impressionists.
