This piece brings together the creative talent of fine artist Paul Kobriger, skateboarding legend Tony Hawk, and original photographer J. Grant Brittain. All three have signed these numbered, limited edition prints, of which there will only be 500 available.

The 16” x 20” prints are printed on high-quality Hahnemuhle Photo Rag paper. The artwork is based on the classic photo of skateboarding icon Tony Hawk by the legendary skateboard photographer J. Grant Brittain. Grant helped found TransWorld SKATEboarding magazine way back in 1983 and served as its photo editor for over 20 years. He shot over 60 covers of the magazine over the years. In 2003, Grant helped found The Skateboard Mag, running from 2004-2016. He also shoots commercial projects as well as personal art photography.

The original photo and new artwork by Paul show a young Tony Hawk doing a Crossbone Lien Air in 1987 in the keyhole at the famous Del Mar Skate Ranch, just days before it closed for good. Tony is, of course, the 12-time World Champion and 17-time X Games medalist, known for being the first to complete the holy grail of vert skating, the 900. He is also the creator of over 100 skateboard tricks and one of the legends of the sport.

The original piece for this print was created by fine artist Paul Kobriger, primarily a portrait artist from Escondido, CA. Paul grew up a skateboarder himself, moving to San Diego and ultimately working as the Marketing Director for TransWorld SKATEboarding magazine. Many of his art pieces are created with the unusual medium of a ballpoint pen. This particular piece of artwork was created using four colors of ink and took over 300 hours over the course of five months to complete.

Proceeds from the sale of this print benefit The Skatepark Project and our mission to help underserved communities create safe and inclusive public skateparks for youth.
