'Spot of Bother' pays homage to British contemporary artist Damien Hirst who's spot paintings are one of his most widely recognised works with over 1000 in existence since 1986.
Hirst's spots follow a number of specific rules: The spots must be uniform in size, hand-painted in a perfect circle, and positioned in a grid at intervals equal to the diameter of the discs.. Almost always, every spot in a work will be a different colour (and the spots are rarely black).
Keeping true to the original spot paintings, Pahnl has carefully screen printed each spot in a unique colour in orderly grids.
But it wouldn't be a Pahnl if there wasn't a humourous twist.
Sometimes rules are there to be broken, can you spot the difference?One of the two commissioned paintings we sprayed recently that are now happily hanging on a wall in Singapore. Quite convenient that we could cut all the circles into one layer and spray them individually.
