This is a 2 color (meaning 2 plate) copper etching that I made while visiting a print shop at Edinboro University in PA. The image is based loosely on a series engravings from an 1875 edition of Francis Orpen Morris, A Natural History of the Nests & Eggs of British Birds. I've always been mesmerized by how the eggs eerily levitate about their nests in the images. The plates are printed up in a dark sepia brown (nest and background texture), and a robin's egg blue. They were printed by hand on a beautiful Takach intaglio press here in Chicago. The edition size is 18, and I have 13 available to sell. It's printed on a heavy weight, cream colored, cotton rag paper.
This print is a benefit print, meaning that 100% of the sales will go to help out a friend of mine. He lost his wife suddenly, under tragic circumstances in the first week of June 2009. The print is named in her honor as well as that of F.O. Morris.
