"'Self Direction No. 2' depicts the portrait of a space man, decked out in white suit and helmet. Within the glass of the helmet, Chengxiang has painted an infinite series of smaller helmets, like the endless reflections generated between two mirrors, while a multicoloured, striated background lends a distinctly psychedelic and dreamlike quality."
