Ravi Zupa is an artist known for his diverse skill set and subject matter. Arna Miller is an artist and Screen printer in Denver. Her printmaking creativity, flexibility and resourcefulness makes her the perfect fit for collaboration with Ravi Zupa who often has ambitious and untrodden goals with his media. Together they have developed many techniques and processes to create unique, high quality prints.

The “Sea and Space Propaganda” series of 8 screen printed posters was created as a collaboration between Ravi and Arna, inspired by the WWII era posters that celebrated prominent characters, galvanized communities and taught important lessons to the public. Both Ravi and Arna executed all of the stages of the process from idea to drawing to editioning.

These two are the most mashed up of all the posters in this series. The style is a combination of Ukiyo-e style block prints (maybe Kunisada Utagawa), and that of the 20th century propaganda posters. The theme is that of Samuari in space and under sea and the text was borrowed from the grandfather of Science Fiction, Jules Verne. Verne wrote stories both about space travel and about underwater navigation long before either were a possibility.

Obviously Kunisada and Verne lived in profoundly different worlds but interestingly enough, they were alive at the same time.
