This screen print is adapted from a linocut I did for the cover of RL Stevenson’s ‘Treasure Island’, commissioned for a new publication of Stevenson’s 1883 novel. I spent a while figuring out how to do it, and perhaps influenced by the Japanese artist Hokusai, eventually settled on huge stylised waves as a foreground and a tiny, easily-missed island under a stormy sky. The picture has been available previously as a very small, one colour letterpress print in an open edition; this much larger version has been screen printed in three colours, and is hand printed on to 300gsm Somerset Velvet paper.
